Tubularbells Ruota, table lamp with a base made from a tyre and white shade

Tubularbells is a table lamp with a rubber base, part of a system of lamps obtained by connecting water pipes with standard fittings. Different types can be achieved, from table lamps to adjustable floor lamps, by assembling the 45-degree fittings and the straight sections of galvanised tubing in different ways.

These are pipes used where oxidation of the material must be avoided, since it would contaminate the fluid being carried: they are therefore dipped in dedicated zinc baths, and the excess material is removed in a subsequent process. The pipes are made of galvanised iron, with a diameter of 3/4 inch.

The production process essentially consists of helical forming, through the calendering of a continuous strip obtained by butt-welding sheets or coils, followed by internal and external welding of the helix edges. Thanks to the 45-degree elbow fittings, it is possible to create different types of lamps โ€” floor, table, even adjustable ones โ€” making use of the threading on the pipes mounted on the fittings: the possible configurations are practically endless.
