Biography

Alessandro Marelli was born in Brianza, a well-known wood-industry district north of Milan, and became involved in design early on, collaborating on public and private furniture projects with various companies and architecture studios — an experience that deepened his knowledge of wood as a material.

While studying at the Politecnico di Milano, he had the opportunity to meet Enzo Mari. After graduating in Industrial Design, he collaborated briefly with Prospero Rasulo.

Called back by Enzo Mari, he remained in his studio as sole collaborator for several years, assisting with the development of various projects, including the exhibition design for Enzo Mari's "L'Arte del Design", held at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Turin.

After this experience he decided to open his own studio to dedicate himself to design. In 2012, the Lanx OLED lamp entered the permanent collection of the Vitra Design Museum.

An experienced 3D modeller with Rhinoceros software, Alessandro Marelli teaches 3D modelling at CFTA in Milan and is an authorised McNeel ART trainer.

He designs for companies in the fields of industrial design and furniture, following each project from formal research through to execution and production.

Beyond product design, he also works on trade fair stands: from concept to installation, for companies exhibiting at trade fairs in Italy and Europe — either directly for the exhibiting brand, or in collaboration with specialized stand-fitting companies.

He also takes on bespoke furniture projects for private clients, as well as interior design for bars, lounge bars, hotels and other contract spaces.
