Basso

4-string electric bass, one-piece body.

One-piece body 4-string electric bass, in maple and walnut

Basso is a 4-string, one-piece body electric bass: a handcrafted instrument, made of three different types of wood — maple, strong and stable, used for the neck and the central part of the body; walnut, with a rich tone, used for the sides of the body; ebony, extremely hard, for the fretboard.

We chose a symmetrical shape, uncommon in electric basses and guitars, and a neck-through construction technique with the rest of the instrument, which gives maximum definition and sustain to the notes. This bass has a single humbucker pickup, providing three different tones via a three-way selector.

The tuners and bridge have a satin finish and are made in Germany by Schaller. We chose a gloss finish, except for the fretboard, which has an oil-based finish.

Neck-through body: instruments of this type are built with a neck — usually laminated — that is not bolted onto the body but runs all the way to the far end of the body itself; the two "wings" of the body are then glued onto the neck. This system provides excellent sustain: since there is no true neck-to-body joint, as the neck runs all the way through, it avoids the vibration damping that instead occurs in bolt-on basses. Avoiding this problem maximises the vibration of the woods as a whole, which in turn produces greater sustain compared with a bolt-on solution.
